We, members of the amazigh community of the United Kingdom, deeply saddened and outraged by the recent killings in the Kabylie (Algeria), would like to show the families of the victims our deepest sympathy and assure them of our support in these times of hardship and pain .We would like also to assure the Imazighen of Kabylie of our strongest support in the struggle for our legitimate rights as to see our Amazigh language gaining the status of national and official language.We condemn in the strongest terms the action of the barbaric and ruthless Algerian government in using live ammunitions and killing unarmed and innocent people.We call upon the international community to send in an enquiry commission to Algeria to investigate these killings and to bring the perpetrators as well as all the people responsible for these killings before the international court of justice to stand trial for crimes against humanity.We are hereby appealing to all the people in the United Kingdom who are concerned about human rights and those who show any respect for a human life to join us in a demonstration in front of the Algerian Consulate on Saturday 05/05/2001 to demand to:The Algerian government to:- Stop killing unarmed and innocent people.- Give their rights to our people- Put and end to the discrimination against the Amazigh people- Give Thamazight the place which belongs to it outright in AlgeriaThe international Community- To do whatever it takes to bring the Algerian dictator, the president Abdelaziz Bouteflika, and his government before the international court of justice to stand trial for crimes against humanity.- To put all the necessary pressure on the Algerian government to recognise the rights of the Amazigh people to their language and culture.Also, we would appreciate very much if you can write to the Algerian dictator president to ask him to put an end to these killings and recognise the legitimate rights of the Imazighen to their language.
